2022 Jeep Renegade 4xe may retain the current hybrid powertrain

Home » News » Jeep » 2022 Jeep Renegade 4xe may retain the current hybrid powertrain

The 2022 Jeep Renegade has been mildly restyled for this year. The SUV was unveiled in Brazil in February 2022, serving as a preview for the global specification, which is expected later in 2022. The restyled SUV features minor design changes, both on the outside and inside, that we anticipate will be carried over to the 2022 Jeep Renegade 4xe PHEV in Europe. The hybrid powertrain, introduced with the Jeep Renegade 4xe in 2019, is expected to remain unchanged.

Except for reworked styling to make the SUV look fresh, there are no significant changes to the overall design. A narrower front grille with shortened vertical slats, a redesigned front bumper, and a prominent skid plate with grey and red inserts accentuating the sporty element are the changes. The old round fog lamps appear to be replaced with smaller rectangular units positioned in the front bumper.

The 2022 Jeep Renegade features new stylish 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-tone black and grey ORVMs, a grey skid plate at the rear with a red tow hook, and a revamped LED taillamp cluster with a new variation of the X-shaped LED lights. The 2022 model retains the prominent squared wheel arches, blacked-out body cladding, blacked-out pillars, functional roof rails, and a roof-mounted rear spoiler. A matte black strip for the bonnet is also available as an option.

The cabin layout of the 2022 Jeep Renegade will most likely remain the same, save for a few changes such as the addition of USB-C ports on the dashboard, a new steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, and updated software for the digital infotainment system. Depending on the variants, the upholstery might also be available for upgrades. Yet again, there should be three variants for customers: Longitude, Limited, and the off-road-oriented Trailhawk.

The Jeep Renegade 4xe is powered by a 1.3-liter turbo-petrol engine that makes 130 hp and is paired to an electric motor that supplies an additional 60 hp taking the total system output to 190 hp. The electric motor is powered by an 11.4 kWh, 400 Volt, Lithium-Ion, nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack that allows up to 26 miles of pure electric range (WLTP). The maximum torque is 199 lb-ft. There's also a 190 hp version of this engine which takes the total output to 240 hp.

Drivers can switch between hybrid, Electric, and E-save drive modes. The E-save uses the combustion engine only to save the charge in the battery. Moreover, the SUV also comes with terrain modes like Snow, Sand, Mud, Sport, and Auto. The modes alter the electric motor and engine response and tweak the steering, throttle, and transmission characteristics to suit the particular terrain. Expect the 2022 Jeep Renegade 4xe to retain these specifications.

The restyled Renegade, which has already been unveiled in Brazil, should be unveiled globally later this year with broadly similar looks. The current Jeep Renegade 4xe PHEV starts at GBP 32,600 (USD 42,436) in the United Kingdom (OTR). The updated model is expected to have a minor price increase. This year, Jeep also introduced a new Renegade eHybrid model for Europe, complete with a mild-hybrid engine.

While the Jeep Renegade is available in the U.S., it comes with a gas-only powertrain. The PHEV has been selling in Europe for over two years, but not in America. In the U.S., the Jeep 4xe powertrain is reserved for the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee. Lastly, Jeep has confirmed that a pure-electric version or equivalent of the Jeep Renegade will be launched by 2025, as it aims to have one EV in every segment that it operates in.
